Free directory assistance to be tested here.

Verizon Communications chooses Denver as a test market for its service, which is ad-based. By Andy Vuong Denver Post Staff Writer

Verizon Communications said Wednesday that it has chosen Denver as one of two test markets for a new directory-assistance service that is free for users.

The catch is that callers have to listen to one or two advertisements before they get the number or information they're looking for. The ads typically last 10 to 25 seconds.

Verizon's 800-THE-INFO (800-843-4636) service currently offers only business listings. Cellphone users can get the information texted to them. Eventually, the service may be expanded to include other information, such as weather forecasts, sports scores and restaurant reviews, the company said.
